A Breath for Dani

Giving more time to a 35-year-old mother.

Daniela Paz Garcia Pena is 35 years old. In addition to being a veterinarian, she is a wife, daughter, sister, and mother of two little girls, Amalia and Francisca.

Two years ago, her life changed forever when she was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer with an EGFR mutation.

Today she needs access to an innovative treatment that may represent a new opportunity to keep watching her daughters grow.

Her story

A diagnosis that arrived when Daniela was only 33 years old.

2024

It began with extreme fatigue, back pain, and difficulty breathing.

One winter Sunday, she went to the emergency room in Concepcion with her sister Paola.

A CT scan showed a large lesion in her right lung, and she had to be hospitalized.

Shortly after, she received a diagnosis she never imagined: stage IV lung cancer with an EGFR mutation.

She was only 33 years old. She had never smoked.

The current challenge

The medicine exists. The challenge is being able to access it.

Daniela currently needs treatment with Amivantamab + Lazertinib, indicated for patients with specific EGFR mutations.

International scientific evidence supports this treatment, and it has been approved by regulatory agencies in different countries.

However, its cost exceeds 23 million Chilean pesos per month, and it is currently not covered by GES in Chile.

Estimated cost $23,000,000 CLP / month Approximate USD equivalent

Why do we talk about butterflies?

Some butterflies also represent hope and life.

MARIPOSA is the name of the international clinical study that evaluated the combination of Amivantamab and Lazertinib in EGFR-mutated lung cancer.

This treatment is not experimental or invented. It is supported by international scientific studies and approved in different countries.

International support

A hopeful treatment recognized by regulatory agencies.

Our family

Cancer is not faced by one person alone. It is lived by everyone close to them.

During these two years, Daniela has had the unconditional support of her husband and daughters, parents, sisters, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Her family has become her shelter, her strength, and her hope.

Raising awareness

Did you know that lung cancer can also affect young people who have never smoked?

We want this campaign to help Daniela, but also to raise awareness about the importance of timely detection, access to innovative treatments, and the need to keep improving care opportunities for people living with cancer in Chile.
